Alvington, Alice and Violet Davis

Alvington Davis family

Kelly wrote: "... Please find attached a photo of my nan Violet Davis (married John Sterry) born 1913 (born at Royal Reddings Hewelsfield) outside this house The step in front of the house has gone and so has the doorway the lady is stood in I believe The photo of my nan and her bike is about 1925 and the other photo is her mother Alice Davis in the doorway of the house. Later they moved to Severn cottage, in the lane behind the church.

Peter Essex added: "... Here's a Forest tree for you. Violet Davis's husband John Sterry was a greatx3 grandson of Richard Sterry who was married at Minsterworth in 1794 and until recently the earliest progenitor of the numerous Forest Sterrys or Sterreys still around by those names or others through marriage. Recent DNA sampling now connects the Minsterworth line to the earlier Sterrys of Longhope so that the progenitor is now Richard Stirry who was married there to Jane Pitstow in 1686. The exact descent cannot be proved as the early Longhope registers are missing or illegible and DNA has so far failed to connect the Longhope Sterrys to the earliest known Sterrys in the world from nearby Ruardean. But by strange chance in 1961 Violet's sister May Powell was being helped on council business by my grandfather Frank Essex when he died of a heart attack in May's house. And Frank's wife was Frances Sterrey of the Minsterworth line".
