David Dowle added (November 2011): "...re the rail trip to the Festival of Britain. It was n't just secondary schools that went. I was at Scowles C of E Primary and we went on the same or similar trip. We certainly joined a larger train and I'm fairly certain we arrived at Paddington. I can distinctly remember being on top of a London double decker bus and being amazed at Regents Street. In other years we also went to Windsor and the River Thames and once to Whipsnade although I belive we joined the trains at Gloucester. BR employed a man to go round the schools organising these trips. Was n't the Festival of Britain trip the last time a passenger train left Coleford?".
