The occasion was a nativity play at St John's Church of England School, Coleford in the late 1940s. Can anyone narrow down the date?

Colin Smith added (December 2009): "So many of my class mates are on this photograph. Larry Sterret, Gwen Evans, Anne Ricketts, Penelope Jenkins, Beryl Hyde, Tony Bird, Alec Aincough, Hilary Howells, Winnie George and one of my greatest friends, John Richards. Some of them, I hope they won`t mind me saying, were most unlikely candidates for a nativity play. I can`t remember the occasion, but I am surprised I was not part of it since I was always in St. John`s C of E productions; perhaps I was sick. But where are Alan Potter, Gerald Frowen, John Gwilliam, Graham Jones, Roger Williams, Michael and Peter Roberts et al?".
"It is clear that, as my class was the senior class on the photo, this must have been taken pre-Christmas, 1949. My class left the school in July, 1950".

Sophie Willingale added (June 2012): "... I'm just going through some old books and I have and found a rather nice inscription so I thought Id try googling. The book says 'Presented to Charles Wilcox. For regular attendance Coleford C. of E. School During year End 31st May 1911. School open 402 times present 394. William C.Selby Headteacher Mxd. Department. Xmas 1911'. Would this be of interest to anyone - schools or historians in Coleford?. I have'nt found a reference to the exact school so thought I'd send the enquiry via your website".
