Lydney rugby in the 1950s.

Albert Johnson

Albert Johnson, playing fly half for Lydney vs Stroud in the 1950"s.

Keith Kear added: "... with the ball, David Shay Hughes, probably Captain. Waiting to receive, most likely Johny Morgans Full-back. Hands on hips in a typical posture, Bernard Weston... nickname of David Hughes 'Shay Shay', this may be epithet to pinpoint the appropriate Hughes descentline".
On reflection Keith added "... not Johny Morgans Not known to me but looks like very fast runner. Maybe not a regular Lydney player? ... An Albert Johnson known to me as black American ex-serviceman who settled down in Bream and married a local girl. I believe he was a coalminer. He was selected for and played rugby for Bream. Unlike Billy Boston who was an outstanding player from Tiger Bay who was not accepted by Cardiff RFC".

Peter Richards added (Nobvember 2018): "... I owe a lot to Albert Johnson, he started me on my long Basketball career".
