A house and residents on Alaston Mesne, Lydney.
Wendy wrote: "... I have attached copies of the two photos I showed you today, of my paternal great grandfather Richard Bailey and his family at Primrose Hill or Allaston Mesne. I believe he was a blacksmith who worked on the Severn Rail Bridge. I will be very grateful for any help anyone can give me".
Photo 1, (above) L-R:
I believe Richard Bailey born 26-3-1848 is on the left, then his wife Ellen. I have not yet found her maiden name. Next I think it is Richard's mother Ann (maiden name Turner) born 22-5-1817 and Richard's father William born 22-9-1822. Although as the pair look dressed up I suppose it could be Ann's parents visiting! Richard and Ellen had eight children but I should think the last person is Ellen Mary born 1870 ish.
Does anyone recognise the house or the photo mount?

Back row (standing on step):- 1 William born 1872, 2 Ellen Mary b 1870
Front 1 Richard Bailey, 2 Catharine b 1882, 3 Ellen Bailey, 4 Wallace David b 11-7-1879 - 17-1-1958
Girl with hands clasped, Ann E b 1884, Baby, Joseph S b 1884 killed in WW1.
Two more children were born after this - Florence in 1887 and Nancy 1889. So I assume the photo is circa 1884 -1885.
Gill Knowles added: "... I have been looking at a Family History website and have come up with the name of Mcnamara as the maiden name of Richard's wife Ellen. The 1871 Census records Ellen Baily as being born in Bishopston Glamorganshire. There was a marriage between Richard Bailey and Ellen Mcnamara in Gower Glamorganshire in the third quarter of 1868. Hope this is of some use".
Keith Bailey added (January 2013): "... Richard Bailey b.1848 Lydney mar. Ellen
