Speech House Hill.

Speech House Road

A postcard entitled "Speech House Hill from Foundry Road, Five Acres"

Speech House Colliery can just be seen on the hill in the distance - now the site of Beechenhurst visitor centre.

Roger Matthews added (February 2011): "... The road is clearly Speech House Road which runs from Broadwell to Cinderford and the picture has been taken around half a mile from Broadwell. Very near to this spot used to be Herbert and Young's foundry, now a coal mine, which may explain the name. Five Acres is around two miles away and there is no Foundry Road there".

David Morris added (March 2011): "...I would suggest that this picture was taken about half a mile up from the Cannop Cross roads on the road to Broadwell just before the first bend. If as suggessted just down from Broadwell the road would be shared with the tramway which would have run down the left hand side of the road. Plus one would not be able to see the road up to the Speech House bends".

Roger added (March 2011): "... Since the distance from Broadwell Bridge to Cannop Crossroads is roughly a mile it seems that Mr Morris and I are talking about the same spot on the road".
