Factory Cottages, Lydney
Anne wrote: "I have just come across this photo which I thought you might be interested in as a companion piece to the photo of Factory Cottages that I sent you some time ago. I know it is not very clear as it was taken with an ordinary camera ... but I thought it is interesting to see the exact position of the cottages. The photo was taken by Harold McOwan in 1954 from the back garden of 66 Tutnalls Street, Lydney. Factory Cottages, with smoke coming from their chimneys, are on the far side of the sports ground".
Bob Philpott added: "... I grew up at 52 Tutnalls Street (the garden would have been one or two to the right of those shown). I can vaguely remember the lake being created (probably around this time) which somehow helped the recreation land drain. This photograph was taken before the Tennis Club Pavilion was built and before the football pitches were created. It does show how marshy this land was before it was drained properly".
