Terry Morton added (Feb 2012): "... At Broadwell school - I was there from 1947 on - Mr Phillips was Headmaster. Mrs Oliver taught us and we had 24 passes for Bells in 1950. Miss Smith was also a teacher there and we all remember Crusty the dog who sat outside the playground waiting for us to lose the ball.. we never got it back. Some of the Bells (Grammar School) teachers were Mr Margarison, Mr Barrett, Miss Evans, Mr Hyatt, Mr Davis, Mr Quayle. Mr Leaning was HM and lived at the Bakers Hill end of Gloucs Rd as did Mrs Oliver (Broadwell) The top end of the concrete works at Broadwell used to be a pond and in the summer there was always Dragonflies around it. Frank Haviland had a bakery near there on the Cannop road before moving to the new one that ultimately became Patterson dental. Mrs Taylor had the fish & chip shop opposite Dick Tye's".
Jane Wilks added (November 2020): "... I lived at Coalway and went to Broadwell School in the fifties and early sixties. I started in Miss Pit's class then Mrs Joins, Miss Alford, Mrs Smith, Mr Gibbs then passed to Bell's Grammar School. My classmates included: June Panting, Christine Edwards, Christine Baldwin (very sadly deceased), Lynne Williams, Wendy Porter, Nigel Morgan, Paul Gwilliam, Geofrey Gillo, Peter Hughes, Robert Wall, John Brain, Ann Thomas. I loved Broadwell School and have many happy memories. I now live 120 miles away but often reflect on my happy carefree childhood in The Forest of Dean".
