The Triangle

Joe wrote: "... Cinderford Triangle, date unknown, but interestingly on the back where the stamp goes is written 1 1/2 d postage if with only 5 words of greetings (that's one and a half old pence)"

Jeremy Preece added (April 2018): "... although born and bred in Bristol, both my parents came from Cinderford. My great Aunty Eva (Evelyn Jones), used to own and run a wool shop right on the point of the old triangle. She lived in a flat above the shop. I remember visiting it as a child, and I remember it being closed and demolished".

John Phillips added (May 2025): "... I would say this photo is definitely 1930s, as evidenced by the cars in the picture. The shop with the oriel window was Gardner's electrical shop. Next door is a barber's pole and this would have been Vic Mundy's shop. (See the home Guard photograph for a picture of Vic) Monty Jacobs' clothing Emporium can be seen on the left of the picture. In the background is Cinderford's most famous building, the Baptist Chapel. This picture shows a small ventilation chimney, which was removed when the heating system was upgraded, probably late 30s".

Sheila Harrison added (December 2025) "... I remember the Triangle in the 1940s, an important place with Jacobs haberdashery, the Pikelet shop next door with the window full of fresh pikelets. I can’t remember the name but a shoe shop opposite and was it Wilson’s the grocers along the bottom" ?
