Derek recalls that the occasion was a meeting of 1st Sling Scouts with
Bream Scouts, in Bream, sometime in the 1950s.
Gerald Dowle who was Patrol Leader at
the time recalled (October 2006):
".. the occasion was a Bream Scouts Harvest Festival at the Green
Hut in Bream. Mrs
Williams,
grandmother of Errol and Steve came to talk about her life in India.
Bream Scouts later disbanded and became Sling Scouts".
Mary Bhim-Rao added (Jan 2009): "...That was my grandmother- Mrs Ada Williams giving the talk on her travels
to visit us in India. What a jewel of a photo and I recall the smiles of
Erroll and Steve Willams- cheeky as usual.......
I lived in the metropolis called Sling from 1958 to 1961, when I returned
to India, and then ended up in the USA".
Valerie Willis added (May 2010): "... When my mother Megan Wilson was orphaned she was brought up by her auntie Mrs Ada Williams so we spent a lot of time at Errol and Stephens house with their brothers Carl, Lee and Darryl".
Russ Wynn added (December 2014): "... the scout leader later took holy orders and became the Rev Trevor James and went on to take a spiritual journey helping all. He now rests in peace at the Lea church ...".
Susan Willis added (October 2019): "... My great auntie Ada used to live in a caravan in Sling. I remember visiting her on many occasions - also has anyone any information on her grandchildren Mary Suzie and Johnie? would love to hear any info please.."
