Phil Horsley at Gloster Aircraft Co.

Aircraft

Forester, Phil Horsley at Moreton Valence in 1956. The aircraft is a Gloster Javelin.

Left to right: Peter Varley (pilot), Phil Horsley, Bob Jeffries (navigator), far right Mr Frank Hudson who lived in Tuffley.
The photo was taken by Russell Adams, who produced many superb aerial photos of Gloucestershire.

Phil added "... these photos were taken at the Experimental Dept: on Glo'ster Aircraft's factory and air-field at Moreton Valence. The Aircraft identification No: we were using was WT836. At that time we were experimenting with 'maxeret ' braking which was an automatic unit which is now used on all cars".

Typhoon

Above: Phil also supplied this WWII photo of the assembly of a Typhoon fighter aircraft at the Gloster Aircraft company. The photo demonstates the important work carried out by women during the war.

Mike Morse added (March 2012): "... The christian name of the pilot in the Javelin photo was Peter. Whilst working at Moreton Valence I played cricket with Peter in the Penguins team drawn from fellow employees. Our umpire was Roy Julyan the air traffic controller at Moreton Valence. Our home matches were played on pitch behind the Cross Hands pub at Brockworth".
