Cannop Colliery in the Forest of Dean.

Cannop Colliery (66k)

The photo shows the rail branch line into the colliery from the former Parkend to Lydbrook railway line. The houses in the foreground are still in existance with the Parkend to Lydbrook road running in front of them. The Cannop Colliery site is now used as a bike rental centre by PedalABikeAway. The railway line is now a cycle track.

David Morris added (March 2011): "... The white building in the lower left was a winding house for a small mine. Details unknown to me".

Bob Smith added (June 2014): "... I presume you meant to say the small building in the lower right of the picture ?? ...This was known as 'Old Bobs' and was at one time a coal shaft. It then became disused but at some unknown point, was brought back into use during the life of Cannop Colliery apparently for pumping or ventilation purposes. Other than that, any details are unknown. The old stone building survived well into the 1970s but has now however been completely cleared with the shaft being filled in and obliterated"
