Mitcheldean Water Treatment Works.

Above is Mitcheldean Water Treatment Works during construction in the early 1970s. The structure, top right, is the raw water reservoir which is filled overnight via a pumped supply from the river Wye. The large structure, bottom left, is the treated water reservoir (after clarification, filtration and chlorination) - the water that ends up in our homes. This structure is mainly underground and looks just like a large raised football pitch - without the goals and players, of course. The other picture is a plaque fixed to a spade to commemorate the planting of a tree and to acknowledge commencement of the works construction.
