John and Frances Davies of Ruardean.

John Thomas Davies

Robert wrote (April 2008): "Attached is a photo of my great grandfather John Thomas Davies (1857-1932) and known as "Tom" with his first wife, Frances Davies (nee Prew, who originated from Cheltenham), outside their house at Pettycroft, Ruardean. Both are buried in Ruardean church graveyard. He was a miner,as was his father.Born in Walford he spent most of his life at Ruardean. Married three times, the last time to a Mrs Smart, hostess of the Swan Inn Brierley. He met an untimely death when he fell from a train during the return trip from a Cannop Colliery outing to Blackpool. Newspaper reports of the accident and of his funeral I have also attached to this E mail. John Thomas Davies was also Great Grandfather (obviously) to my brother,Canon Cliff Davies (now retired) of Ruardean".
