Mark added (December 2007): "The two Rudge's in the photograph are distant cousins of mine. William Rudge in the back row was the son of John Rudge and Naomi Saunders of Whitecroft. John is the Veap Rudge mentioned in Alfred Harris' journal that is mentioned on your website and he was killed in a mining accident on the 23rd February 1887 at Trevethin, Abersychan, Monmouth. I don't know how he came to be nick named Veap.
"William's 1st cousin also William Rudge in the front row was the son of George Rudge & Elizabeth Saunders also of Whitecroft. Naomi & Elizabeth were sisters. William was killed in a mining accident at the Princess Royal colliery on the 14th September 1928".
" .... the John Rudge whose death was recorded in Alfred Harris' journal on the 23rd April 1876 was the two William's grandfather and my 3 x Gt. grandfather. The Morgan's in the photograph are probably related to me as well as John's wife was Ann Morgan who was born in Whitecroft".
