A view looking down Bream High St. with the Rising Sun

In this photo Clarence Hancocks is the licensee.
The
Rising Sun Inn was originally situated on the edge of the village. After
the mid 1800's the village extended down the hill towards and then beyond
the schools. Note the stone wall with the gap for the steps.
The small photo shows the other icon of 20th century Bream, the Cenotaph. The
Cenotaph is based upon the style of the national Cenotaph in Whitehall, London.
The Bream Cenotaph has recently undergone repair.

After
a renovation and a spell as the "Village Inn" in the 1990's
under landlord John Smith, the Rising Sun reverted to it's original name
for the millennium. The photo shows the current sign. Landlord
Peter Hicks discovered a 100 ft tunnel connected to the pub cellar.
Donna Warren added (July 2012): "... I grew up in this pub. My dad was landlord - Allen Warren, landlady Jacky Warren. Kenny Vaughan owned it too at some point, god bless him".
